Cleft Lift Procedure for complicated pilonidal disease. Picture shows wound appearance before and immediately after surgery. Notice that the wound is off the midline and the cleft is flattened out. This is the key principle behind the cleft lift procedure. This prevents any moisture and bacteria build up which then prevents infection and skin breakdown from developing because it is exposed to open air. We typically place Dermabond Skin Adhesive for wound dressing which makes it easy to take care of wound. Only dressing needed is for the drain which is removed day 3-5.
